Clove, (Eugenia caryophyllus or Syzygium aromaticum) is from the myrtle family and native to eastern Indonesia.
It is used to season food thanks to its peculiar flavor with an oriental touch. It is intense, with hints of pepper, fresh and with a very stimulating aroma. For this reason it should be used sparingly so as not to mask the main flavors.
It adds pungent, warm, refreshing and spicy flavors to recipes.
